Whistler is go, Falling Leaves & Halloween

Updated: Jul 24, 2020

Whistler finally got their act together and decided to hire me for a full time job at the Westin hotel. Yay! Discounted seasons pass doesn’t hurt either. So now I have the job, the sweet house and the very expensive snowboarding gear (along with 3 extra beanies – sorry – toques – I just HAD to buy.

So this means the season of snow is nearly upon me, I can hardly believe this means I will be up living on that mountain for 6 months, but it’s happening! My pending housemates informed me the other day that there was bears, not one but TWO bears poking about in the downstairs kitchen smelling the bread maker cooking. Note to self; keep all doors and windows in new Whistler pad CLOSED at all times!

In the meantime Halloween is upon us down here in Vancouver and the surrounding towns, so everything has shifted into fright night overload. It’s great. I love the fact that this is celebrated here.  When asked do we celebrate it at home, I answer with a no – but we are aware of it, when the 31st of October swings around we do acknowledge this fact with a simple “Oh hey – it’s Halloween today”. And that’s about the extent of it. The local movie theatre might put on a marathon of old scary flicks and you will still get the odd, occasional trick or treaters if you live in a kid friendly street.  But nothing like this. This is epic so costumes had to be scouted and chosen carefully. A simply hot “cop” or "risqué nurse” just doesn’t cut it, girls really go all out here.

And so began my search for a black tutu.  I ask you – have you ever had to look for a tutu before? You can’t find these things anywhere! After an exhaustive extensive Internet search a friend simply mentioned to me on facebook that there was a dance shop down the road from where I am living. Literally 5 minutes away. Of course. Last place I would have looked.

Now – the hard part. Choosing. I am in no way a dancer so when this Canadian lady took the liberty of laying out 5 different black tutu’s ranging from $20-$100 and from super short to super long in length I started to think -“I’m a little outta my league here, is this really how far I am going for a Halloween costume?” Yep. Settling on a lovely  overpriced tulle skirt I triumphantly had the hardest part locked away for my Halloween costume for the first time.

I’ll give you a hint:
