Wandering Alone in LA

Updated: Jul 31, 2020

So here I am in the city of angels and its summer, it’s exciting and it’s full of crazy LA LA land people. Having just spent the past 2 days completely solo, it had reaffirmed my belief that travel experiences should definitely be shared.

Who else can you marvel up at the Hollywood sign with? Or squeal with delight at sneaking into the roped off très cool poolside area at the Roosevelt Hotel? Also would have been nice to have a buddy on my mission to find Target as the back streets of LA are not for the faint hearted. I imagine to my complete horror I probably screamed like a silly tourist as I jumped at every bush wiggle in fear of being mugged or shot.

Yes, definitely not as fun alone but forces you to give the public transport a go and learn how to politely bat away the homeless. It makes you stronger and at least for this traveller, has given me some of my confidence back in the most pretentious of all towns. Feeling like a rock star returning home this early evening to my little condo, I whipped out my keys like a pro at the building entrance – kept that feeling until I went down to the boulevard for dinner alone – not as fun. This is where I definitley could have used a locals advice!

I never thought I’d say this, but I'll be glad when the tour begins in a few days that I’m joining. Independent or not,  having other like minded travellers with you, especially in a place like LA, is necessary. After all, you need someone to share a drink with and laugh at the 84 year old homeless guy wearing a sign that says “I’m Justin Bieber”.
