The Christmas List

Updated: Jul 31, 2020

Today I was asked by my mum what I want for Christmas.  As per usual the normal spiel comes out; A gift card? Ikea Voucher? Alcohol? Most likely I’ll just end up with some new undies and a Glasshouse Candle if I’m lucky.

This got me to thinking, what do I actually WANT? Really want? Well I had to stop and think about this question for a while.  If we can assume that the proverbial Santa List is, in fact, a type of ‘wish’ list then good lord knows we would all run out of pen and paper trying to write all of these down.  In my case for instance, I don’t think mum can pick any of these up at the local Kmart for me;

  1. A week back in London to party with my friends

  2. My novel published (best selling of course)

  3. Christmas in Paris (well lets be honest – any time in Paris)

  4. New Years Eve in NYC

  5. A day pass for Whistler mountain so I can snowboard my favourite runs

  6. A Tan (real one)

  7. Double plane tickets for my parents to spend summer in Italy

  8. Unlimited free taxi services for my friends and I over the silly season

  9. A remedial massage pass for life

  10. Glastonbury/Reading/Coachella/Rolling Stones tickets for 2014

However, I have a feeling I’ll just end up with a candle and a bottle of Vodka instead….

Oh well – there are worse things then smelling the sweet scents of gardenias whilst drinking the year away.  The truth is, we often just get what we NEED for Christmas from generous loved ones.  Socks included.  And it all helps.

If you want to get what you WANT, well, there’s only one person that can deliver that down the chimney – YOU.  I’m setting out to do this in the new year myself with yet another big change in my life to come (more about this later) so I would encourage everyone to do the same. Go after what you truly want in life, as no one is ever going to deliver it to you as accurately as yourself.

Don’t pretend you don’t know what you want for Christmas.  You know.

So go out there and get some!  Happy Holidays x
